Zack Keim returns with “Better Days,” a wistful gem that wrests melodic bliss out of pangs of nostalgia. With its sunkissed harmonies and tumbling rhythms, the tune is charged with exuberance and longing for the past. Keim co-wrote the tune with indie singer-songwriter Matt Costa and Chad Monticue of Animal Scream in California; references to palm trees, prophets, and the parking lot heighten the song’s West Coast origins. “Better Days” crystallizes the leap forward while also hearkening back to Keim’s garage-rock roots with what he describes as a “fast-paced Ramones/Beach Boys vibe”: pounding tempos, wall-of-sound harmonies, vintage six-string textures. Lyrically, the song summons the feeling of sitting in a cherry-colored diner seat, longing for better things in the past, a theme captured by the evocative music video, which was directed by Costa.
B-Side “Maggie” (produced by Jake Hanner and Animal Scream) is the song’s melancholy twin. It’s a bittersweet love story steeped in ambling psychedelia and rickey piano, bridging the gap between Buddy Holly’s “apartment tapes” (a huge influence on Keim) and early Walkmen.

Needed and got the record. Love it! I don't know if the Neighbors down the road like it as it comes out of my 500watt Stereo system. But hey, It's not Mumble rap. Am I right? Am I right? KrazyGoat1
